3 New Releases From the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2022

Jun 5, 2022 •

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is always a mid-year highlight, as Apple debuts some of the newest features and devices that will soon be available to consumers. While there are numerous updates and innovations each year, a few always stand out. Here are three new releases from the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2022 that promise to be particularly special.

IOS 16: The Latest Operating System

Everyone knew iOS 16 was coming this year, but what exactly it’d include was somewhat less certain. Apple debuted the operating system update at WDC, and there’s plenty to look forward to. A few of the update’s new features include:

  • Editing recent iMessage messages
  • Sync videos with others through SharePlay
  • Customize the lock screen more
  • Navigate more global places with improved Maps
  • Share photo libraries with your family

There are other new features that users are bound to like. These are simply some of the more notable ones.

Apple Watch: Improved User Experience

The Apple Watch isn’t fundamentally changing, but the way users interact with it is. Apple has brought aboard several features that improve the overall user interface:

  • Four new faces offer greater customization
  • “Banner” notifications don’t take up the entire screen
  • Track new running metrics for more detailed information
  • Sleep tracking will log time in each of four different sleep stages

People who don’t yet have an Apple Watch might not be persuaded by these new features to get one. Those who already use an Apple Watch are bound to love it even more, though.

M2 Chip: Even Faster and Better

Apple’s introduction of the house-designed M1 chipset was a disrupter when it debuted in 2020. The chip was obviously going to be followed by updated versions, and the first of those updated versions was shown at WDC.

Developers got their first glimpse of the M2 chip, which will be even faster than the M1. The newer version is 18 percent faster than its predecessor, and its GPU is 35% faster. Those improvements will help even the most resource-intensive software run smoothly.

Upgrade Your iPhone to Take Full Advantage

If these changes have you excited, it may be time to upgrade your Apple hardware. Specifically, consider upgrading your iPhone if you want to take full advantage of all that iOS 16 offers.

When they come out, the iPhone 14 lineup (and especially the Pro models) will run iOS 16 better than any previous iPhone model. The iPhone 13 lineup should drop in price when the newer lineup becomes available, and the iPhone is still an excellent choice if you want performance with some price savings.
